Montenegro hosts WCO National Seminar on the Harmonized System

With sponsorship of the German Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF/Germany), a WCO National Seminar on the Harmonized System (HS) and the Classification Management was held in the headquarters of the Montenegro Customs in Podgorica, from 6 to 9 May 2014.

At the opening of the Seminar, the Assistant Director of the Customs Operation and Legal Sector, Mrs. Snezana Vuckovic, highlighted the importance of the correct classification in the Harmonized System (HS) and thanked the representatives from the WCO Secretariat’s Directorate of Tariff and Trade Affairs for facilitating the high level discussions on tariff classification issues encountered by the Customs officers in Montenegro.

During the Seminar the group discussed the use and future prospects of the HS and some practical cases of tariff classification in relevant areas such as "high-tech" and food supplements. A wide range of HS-related matters was addressed and the 15 participants were also thoroughly informed about the fundamental principles and practicalities of HS classification to ensure correct and uniform application of the HS.

The Workshop was closed by the Head of the Department of Customs Tariff, Mrs. Tukovic Dzenana. In her remarks she also emphasized the importance of the correct and uniform classification of commodities in the HS for the well-functioning of the Montenegro Customs Administration.
