Support the USO on Memorial Day

The USO is a great organization who provides support for the families of America's fallen heroes. Charles Laverty calls on Americans to support the USO

Memorial Day is about remembering those who gave everything and honoring the sacrifice they and their loved ones made. That is why I choose to support the USO. ”

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, May 25, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- We all look forward to Memorial Day with its barbeques and other outdoor events. It’s so easy to get caught up in planning fun activities that we forget about honoring the men and women who sacrificed their lives for their country. Charles Laverty, healthcare policy expert and CEO of Advanced Bifurcation Systems, urges all Americans to find ways to show their gratitude. He believes one of the most significant ways to do this is to support organizations that help the families of the fallen.

A National Moment of Remembrance
The National Moment of Remembrance Act signed by Bill Clinton asks people to take a moment of silence at 3pm to pay respects to all the men and women who died in service of the country. While we enjoy the freedom these men and women made possible, we take a moment to acknowledge them.

Allegedly, the idea for this act came when children were touring Washington D.C. and their response to a question about the meaning of Memorial Day was that it was the day the pools opened. People now pause for a moment all over the country, cars drive with headlights on, people wave flags, trains blow their whistles, and thousands of Major League Baseball fans take a moment to remember.

Ceremonies and parades
Other ways in which Americans offer their support is to visit cemeteries and place flowers or flags on the graves of fallen soldiers or attend parades in their honor.

In Washington D.C. the largest Memorial Day Parade takes place, featuring many military high school and college bands. Active duty military personnel, veteran’s organizations and historical re-enactors participate in the parade. Arlington National Cemetery, where many soldiers have been laid to rest, is visited by many people on Memorial Day.

Support for organizations
Charles Laverty, a commentator on the U.S. healthcare industry, urges Americans to take their support a step further and donate to organizations like the USO https://www.uso.org/programs/support-for-families-of-the-fallen. The USO is located at the Dover Air Force Base and has a vast network of centers throughout the world. It has been supporting dignified transfers since 1991 and offers comfort to the families of the fallen.

The USO partners with other organizations such as the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and together they provide Survivor Resource Kits to those who have received tragic news. The USO also supports various TAPS camps and retreats, including Taps Kid’s Campouts where kids can connect with others who are going through a similar experience.
