Year-round fuel deliveries by Gazprom Neft are securing the continuous operation of plants and businesses in the Russian Far North

Gazprom Neft has maintained year-round motor-fuel delivery volumes to oil and gas and municipal enterprises in the Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs — socio-economic agreements already in place with local government in these regions having resulted in consignments of more than 120,000 tonnes of petroleum products.

Delivery of winter and Arctic diesel involves a logistics strategy that includes transportation on the Irtysh and Ob rivers during the summer navigation period, as well as transportation of oil products by road, including winter “ice roads” extending into remote locations, and access over frozen rivers and lakes. Delivery of petroleum products to end-consumers is the responsibility of Gazprom Neft’s sales and distribution division, Gazprom Neft Regional Sales. All industrial and environmental safety requirements are stringently adhered to in transporting and storing fuel in low temperatures: all fuel tankers undergo stringent inspection prior to fuel being loaded, which involves laboratory specialists confirming vessel readiness, confirming volumes, and recording quality-control data.

High-quality fuel is despatched from the Gazprom Neft Omsk Refinery — the plant’s berthing infrastructure having been upgraded in 2020 to ensure effective, uninterrupted shipments of petroleum products to “river—sea” tankers. Technological works here involved upgrading pipelines and mooring equipment, as well as the deployment of a digital system to guarantee accuracy in fuelling operations.

The Omsk Refinery also supplies aviation fuel to airports throughout the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug every year, via a unique logistics scheme for transporting petroleum products (and covering approximately 9,000 kilometres) through the Northern Sea Route. Gazpromneft-Aero, operator of the Gazprom Neft aviation refuelling business, delivered more than 16,000 tonnes of aviation fuel (essential to the continuous operation of airports in Anadyr, Pevek and Keperveyem) in 2020.
