Government of Sri Lanka might choose to deny the rights of Tamils to observe the remembrance events. Whatever the obstacles, Eelam Tamils are determined to observe Mullivaaikkaal Remembrance.”

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, May 8, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ --

It is ten years since the Mullivaaikkaal Tamil Genocide was concluded. Sinhala supremacism and it’s massive efforts to weaken the spirit of freedom among the Tamil people have failed.

In spite of the very restricted political space in the Tamil Homeland for Tamils, to express their spirit of freedom in full, they have constantly been raising their voice for liberties seizing all available opportunities.

The Tamil people have for ten years been carrying on the struggle for justice for the Mullivaaikkaal Tamil Genocide at all existing international forums. It has been a common perception that as long as the decision-making powers at many of these forums are vested with States, Tamils, as non-State actors, would find it a challenge to secure the justice they are seeking. It is, therefore, imperative that we find new arenas of struggle for our fight for justice.

The evolving international legal procedure provides us with such opportunities. The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) has launched a new justice initiative, namely the Victim-Driven International Justice, in order to secure justice for the victims, on the basis of the ‘Right to the Truth’ and the ’Right to Know’, both of which are recognized rights according to international laws. This initiative is one aspect of the new arenas of struggle for justice we plan to open afresh.

In these days when the Tamil People, walking around with heavy hearts, begin their commemorations of the tenth year of the Mullivaaikkaal Tamil Genocide, conditions prevail such that the Government of Sri Lanka might choose to deny the rights of Tamils to observe the remembrance events.

The Mullivaaikkaal Remembrance events could be hindered in the name of security in the wake of the recent bomb attacks in the island of Sri Lanka. Whatever the obstacles, Eelam Tamils are determined to observe Mullivaaikkaal Remembrance in the homeland as well as throughout the Diaspora.

The TGTE earnestly appeals to the Tamils living all around the world to implement two programs, as a way of marking the Mullivaaikkaal Genocide and the Tamil Eelam National Day of Mourning, and as an expression of the Tamils’ collective grief.

1. Let us all wear black armbands on the 18th of May, the day of Tamil Eelam National Mourning, as Tamils living in the Eelam Tamil Homeland, Tamil Nadu and the rest of the world, and express our grief over the Mullivaaikkaal Tamil Genocide.

2. In order to perpetuate the memories of Mullivaaikkaal, and by way of enhancing the natural environment, let each one of us plant a tree during this period of mourning. Tamils should undertake this task in every country they live in, and during every Mullivaaikkaal Remembrance period. Every sapling we plant will stand as testimony to the memory of those who perished in the Tamil Genocide.

The thirst of Tamils is the Tamil Eelam Homeland!
