President addresses message to Cuban counterpart

Luanda, ANGOLA, January 1 - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, addressed his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, a message on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, marked today (Tuesday).,

On January 1, 1959, Fidel Castro proclaimed the triumph of the Revolution in Santiago de Cuba and went to Havana. The new government promoted wage increases and reduced electricity and telephone tariffs.

In the letter, addressed on behalf of the Angolan people and Government, João Lourenço said that Angola attaches "the highest importance" to the multifaceted relations it maintains with the Republic of Cuba.

The Angolan Head of State expressed the interest of Angola to continue to share interests with the Cuban Nation in order to promote peace and development in their respective countries and at a global level.

"The Angolan Government is committed to explore all the ways that lead to the deepening of bilateral relations between Angola and Cuba," reads the message to which Angop had access today.

In this regard, the letter said, Angola will continue to work together with Cuba to create a framework of bilateral cooperation with real reciprocal advantages.

President João Lourenço hopes that the Cuban people, on this date in that they celebrate one of the most important events of their recent history, shows their dynamism, creativity and combative spirit.

In the message to the President of Cuba, João Lourenço hopes that creativity and combative spirit will be put at the service of building an ever stronger Cuban Republic, in strict observance of its development options as an independent Nation.

The Angolan statesman ends the letter wishing good health, personal well-being and prosperity for the Cuban people.

Angola and Cuba Relations

In the light of military aid from the Cuban internationalists (1974-1991), bilateral relations between Angola and Cuba have become, at the same time, a cooperation in various fields.

Despite the slowdown between 1991 and 2002, diplomatic relations between the two countries have maintained the same vitality since they were established on 15 November 1975 considered as a magnificent and of brotherhood.

The first co-operation agreement between the two countries dates back to February 1976 and covered the health and education sectors, and so far there have been many Cuban professionals in those field in several provinces of Angola.

Cuban and Angolan observers say that respect and brotherhood were fundamental to strengthening relations between the two States, which since 1975 have made efforts to preserve the self-determination of peoples and the development of their countries.
