Angola and Portugal to face new chapter in bilateral relations-Marcelo de Sousa
"The irritant is solved," he told Angolan National Radio on the visit of Angolan President João Lourenço to Portugal scheduled for the 22nd and 24th of this month.
The two states, which have had historical relations for more than 500 years, experienced a political climate of "malaise" in 2017. At stake was the non-transfer to the country of a judicial process against the former Vice President of Angola, Manuel Vicente, accused by the Portuguese court.
To normalize relations, the Angolan executive imposed as a condition the transfer of the process to the Angolan justice, which happened last June.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that the two countries live a new political cycle and can take steps to make this phase of "natural identification" more active and dynamic.
He recalled how he was greeted in 2017, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Angolan President João Lourenço, noting that the less attentive people did not see the warm form as received.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who promised to visit Angola on the first occasion of an invitation, considered, in another sphere, "very natural" Portugal or Angola to have relations with several partners, without causing "jealousy" between the two.
Regarding the payment of the Angolan debts to Portuguese companies, he praised the frank and frontal way as the Angolan Finance Minister, Archer Mangueira, raised the issue during the visit of the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, to Angola.
Regarding the issue of visas and its resolution, within the framework of the CPLP or the bilateral measures, he said he preferred the form of global resolution within the community of Portuguese-speaking countries.
