Luanda, ANGOLA, September 26 - The Deputy Attorney General of Angola, Mota Liz, confirmed on Tuesday in Luanda that the authorities of Switzerland and Mauritius have manifested willingness to repatriate the financial capital illegally transferred from Angola.,

The magistrate, who did not disclose the amount of the money deposited in the mentioned countries, said it is “thousands of millions” of US dollars that were illegally taken out of the country.

   

As for other countries, whose names the official declined to state, the magistrate regretted the existence of bureaucracy, due to the fact that sometimes there is lack of cooperation agreements, which causes some constraints, an idea shared by the minister of Justice and Human Rights, Francisco Queiroz.

The magistrate was speaking to the press on the fringes of the International Conference on "Loss of Values ​​and Recovery of Assets", an initiative of the Ministry of Justice, the European Union and the Camões Institute, as part of the Support to consolidate the Rule of Law Project in the African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP) and East Timor.

 

Although some countries have interests in the financial assets that are in those territories and, thus, express some reservations about transferring them to Angola, Mota Liz said that the Angolan Attorney-General Office has been trying to reach  agreements with several countries to facilitate such mechanisms.

 

For this purpose, the General Attorney Office counts on the law, the international cooperation and several countries’ willingness to cooperate and ensure the return of the financial resources to Angola.

 

On the other hand, the magistrate reaffirmed the willingness of the Prosecution Department to ensure there is judicial punishment for all those who commit financial crimes, embezzlement, corruption and related crimes, a measure that will raise the awareness of the society and discourage those who opt for these sorts of crimes.
