South Carolina’s Hammock Coast Has Premier Schedule Of Events On Tap This Fall

The fall is an idyllic time along the Hammock Coast with the summer heat having receded and an event lineup that rivals most any in the Southeast.

GEORGETOWN, SC, US, August 14, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- South Carolina’s acclaimed Hammock Coast, comprised of five coastal communities in Georgetown County, has a full schedule of events in the closing months of 2018.

Renowned for its casual charm and relaxed pace, Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield, Pawleys Island and Georgetown make up the Hammock Coast and the area’s popularity has soared in recent years as it offers a contrasting, yet complementary, experience to its neighbors to the north (Myrtle Beach) and south (Charleston).

The fall is an idyllic time along the Hammock Coast with the summer heat having receded and an event lineup that rivals most any in the Southeast. Here is a look at some of the Hammock Coast’s headlining events:

-- The Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Arts is a three-week celebration of the arts running from October 4 through October 20. The festival will be highlighted by a series of concerts headlined by acts like the Ambrosia, Edwin McCain, and The Drifters. Go to www.pawleysmusic.com.

-- The most highly anticipated event on the Hammock Coast calendar is the 29th annual Georgetown Wooden Boat Show, which will be held October 20-21.

One of the top 20 events in Southeast, the Wooden Boat Show will feature wooden boat exhibits with more than 140 classic wooden boats displayed on land and water, a wooden boatbuilding competition, children’s model boat building, knot tying, maritime art and crafts, food and music. A special attraction will be Saturday’s Wooden Boat Challenge when teams of two race to build a rowing skiff within a 4-hour time limit and test their boats for seaworthiness in a rowing relay on the Sampit River.

The Wooden Boat Show will be held along the waterfront and Front Street in Historic Downtown Georgetown. More information is available at WoodenBoatShow.com.

-- For travelers more in touch with their athletic side, the 8th annual Historic Georgetown Bridge2Bridge run, which will be held October 27, is one of coastal South Carolina’s premier half-marathons. The 13.1-mile race winds through historic Georgetown, showcasing the area’s lowcountry beauty and historic charm. There will also be a 12k, 5k and Kids Fun Run.
