Global liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification capacity is expected grow by 43.7% during the 2017–2021 period, from 42.9 trillion cubic feet (tcf) in 2017 to 61.8 tcf in 2021.
Among regions, Asia and Europe lead in terms of both planned regasification capacity additions and capital expenditure (capex) spending. These two regions together contribute more than 55% of the global regasification capacity growth and more than 70% of the global capex spending during the outlook period. Asia is expected to contribute about 11.4 tcf of the global regasification capacity through 70 projects, followed by Europe with 3.2 tcf of planned capacity additions through 21 projects.

Among countries, India and China lead in terms of planned regasification capacity additions with 4 tcf and 2.3 tcf, respectively. In terms of capex for LNG regasification projects during the outlook period 2017–2021, Asia and Europe again lead with proposed capex of US$42.5 billion and US$11.5 billion, respectively. Globally, China, with proposed capex of US$15.7 billion, leads in terms of most capex spending countries, followed by India with US$6.5 billion and Indonesia with US$5.2 billion.

In terms of capacity additions among companies, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation leads globally with 1.1 tcf by 2021. Shandong Hanas New Energy Co. Ltd and Excelerate Energy LP follow with 633 billion cubic feet (bcf) and 573 bcf, respectively.
