SIERRA VISTA, Arizona – Chris Russell announced today that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the open U.S. Senate seat in Arizona in the 2018 election.

“I decided to run for office because I am concerned about the failure of both political parties to work together to serve our people and to solve our nation’s problems. I desire to restore civility, statesmanship and healthy discourse in government. Our government should operate from a position of information and facts rather than knee jerk emotional reactions and we cannot let fear be the driving force of our decisions.” Russell stated.

Russell continued, “Most of us all want the same things: we want a chance at a fair job, fair wage, have a home and a family, be able to support ourselves and our families, decent education for our children, have access to affordable health care when we are sick, be safe from violence, crime and terrorism, be taxed fairly, and hopefully have some leisure time to enjoy the fruits of our labor. On these things we have common ground and this is generally referred to as the “common good”. It is the role of government to operate for the common good of

the people to ensure that we can achieve the common good. However, some in Congress have lost touch with this moral compass in Washington D.C., where it has been replaced by both ideology and money.”

“A re-commitment to the common good could bring us together and allow us to solve our deepest problems in this country. By focusing on our shared common goals, letting go of party affiliation, and being open to all ideas that could work to solve problems, we can achieve our goals.”

“Some of our country’s greatest advancements have been the result of bi- partisan efforts, for example the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944 (“GI Bill”). Our people and our country’s future must be placed over partisan advantage.” As Senator Arthur Vandenberg once said: “Politics stops at the water’s edge”.

“I am a trial lawyer, with years of training and experience in considering all sides of an issue. I am trained to carefully consider the facts and the law and to make decisions based upon sound logic and reasoning.”

“I believe my military training and business experience is advantageous to representing Arizona in Washington D.C. given that our state’s economy is largely dependent upon our military bases. I will fight to keep Arizona’s military bases open and to ensure that our military personnel and veterans are supported and receive the care and benefits that they have earned.”

“I was raised to stand up for the little guy and as the next U.S. Senator from Arizona I can bring my deep experience to bear to be a champion for the people of Arizona.” Russell stated.
