Foreign Secretary Morel represents Seychelles at TICAD in Maputo

The Foreign Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Claude Morel, attended in the Post Ministerial TICAD Conference in Maputo, Mozambique, from 24th-26th August, 2017.

The Conference was organized to acknowledge and deliberate on the progress made since TICAD VI which was held in Nairobi, Kenya, a year ago under the theme 'Advancing Africa's sustainable Development agenda:

‘The participants were in unanimous agreement that TICAD has been a formidable success since its inception in 1993 with Ambassador Morel labeling the process as ‘instrumental in the development agenda of Seychelles.’

In his intervention, Ambassador Morel stated that ‘Seychelles has made a big achievement in being one of only two countries that has acquired ‘stable or more stable’ status in Africa.’ Ambassador Morel further acknowledged that the ‘political leadership of his country had played a significant role in this achievement.’

Assessing the components that have helped orchestrate this success, Ambassador Morel added ‘that the Government of Seychelles continues to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, to increase public-private partnership initiatives grounded on value addition.’

Bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference were also organized with Mr. Hirofumi Yoshimura, Mayor of Osaka, and Mr. Manabu Horii, Parliamentary Vice Minister of Japan to further enhance what has become a dynamic relationship with Japan.

The Conference saw representatives from 51 African Countries including 17 Foreign Ministers attend.
