Two very popular Taiwanese chains are headed to Chinatown, part of the growing roster of confirmed tenants moving into the 57,566-square-foot Shanghai Plaza retail hub.

Located across from the Chinatown Plaza, 85C Bakery Cafe was founded in 2004, rapidly expending to more than 1,000 global outlets and debuting its first U.S. branch in Irvine, California, in 2008.

Built on the philosophy of serving “premium coffee, bread, and cake at affordable prices,” the name is inspired by the best temperature to keep a coffee’s flavor.

On the menu, sweet and savory breads, cream puffs and egg tarts, slices of cakes, plus hot and cold coffees, teas, and boba drinks.

Moving into space A105, Sharetea has opened 450 international stores since 1992, featuring a less formal menu and presentation than 85C, but also importing its ingredients from Taiwan to create a menu of tea custard desserts, plus milk, fruit, cream, or ice blended beverages.

A second Sharetea location is already on its way to the southwest at the intersection of Cactus Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.

Originally announced as launching in winter 2018, an updated opening date for the plaza has not been revealed.
