REXBURG — Ten finalists have been announced to fill the vacancy left by Seventh District Court Judge Gregory Moeller’s appointment to the Idaho Supreme Court.
The Idaho Judicial committee says the following candidates applied for the position and are being considered for the role:
Jared W. Allen – Attorney in private practice, Idaho Falls James H. Barrett Jr. – Magistrate Judge of the Seventh Judicial District, Challis Samuel S. Beus – Senior Deputy Public Defender for Twin Falls County, Twin Falls Steven W. Boyce – Magistrate Judge of the Seventh Judicial District, Idaho Falls Daniel R. Clark – Prosecuting Attorney for Bonneville County, Idaho Falls Sean J. Coletti – Attorney in private practice, Idaho Falls Scott J. Davis – Public Defender for Canyon County, Caldwell Michelle Radford Mallard – Magistrate Judge of the Seventh Judicial District, Idaho
Falls Kipp L. Manwaring, Attorney in private practice, Idaho Falls Manuel T. Murdoch, Attorney in private practice, Blackfoot Under Idaho Code 1-809, district judges are required to reside in the place where their chambers reside; meaning, whoever is chosen will need to move to Madison County.
The other requirements include:
Must be at least 30-years-old A citizen of the United States and an elector in the state of Idaho A legal resident in Idaho for least two continuous years before the appointment Have been in good standing as an active or judicial member of the Idaho State Bar for at least two continuous years immediately preceding the appointment Hold a license to practice law or hold a judicial office in one or more jurisdictions for at least ten continuous years immediately preceding the appointment. The Judicial Council is currently planning to meet on April 2 in Rexburg to interview and select the nominees. Two finalists will then be forwarded to Gov. Brad Little, who will fill the vacancy.
The new judge will receive a salary of $135,400. He or she will hear cases in Madison County as well as other counties within the Seventh Judicial District.
