Egypt embassy in Algeria suspends services

January 10, 2019 at 3:14 pm

The Egyptian embassy in Algeria yesterday announced that it had suspended its consular services.

“Due to an emergency the embassy’s consular services will be suspended until further notice,” the embassy said on Facebook. No reasons were given for the decision.

Sources suggested that the Egyptian decision came after a fire broke out in the embassy on Tuesday, this led to the building’s electrical transformers being damaged.

Egyptian Ambassador to Algeria, Ayman Musharaf, announced earlier that the embassy would offer visa services for the Algerian football fans who will be travelling to Egypt to attend the Africa Cup of Nations in June. “We welcome our Algerian brothers in their second country, Egypt,” he said.

“We have issued visas for 41,000 tourists and we aim to issue a total of 100,000 this year,” Musharaf added, pointing out that the country’s foreign ministry was working on preparations for the event to facilitate a “safe and nice stay for all the African visitors”.
