A 55-year-old South Carolina man has died after being struck by the side of State Road 528 in Christmas early Monday morning following an earlier crash.
The chain of events began about 4:45 a.m. when a tractor-trailer going west struck a guardrail and the driver pulled to the shoulder of the road, got out of the truck and began accessing the damage.
The man, who has yet to be identified, was on the left side of his truck near the roadway when the right side mirror of a passing tractor-trailer struck him. The man was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died, according to Lt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man’s hometown was listed as Lynchburg, S.C.
The driver of the second semi has been identified as Shane Forney, 58, of Palm Bay. He was not injured in the collision.
The fatal crash closed most of the westbound lanes for at least two hours.
