A police standoff shut down a Bellevue neighborhood for a little more than an hour Tuesday afternoon.

According to a press release form the Bellevue Police Department, they were called to check the well-being of a 29-year-old male at a home near 35th Ave. and Jackson Circle at 2:38 p.m.

The officer who arrived met with the man's wife and she told them that the husband was distraught and possibly armed with two guns. The officer then heard what sounded like a gunshot and removed himself and the wife from the immediate area.

SWAT, fire, EMS, Sarpy County deputies and police from Bellevue and La Vista were on scene.

The standoff happened near Lewis and Clark Middle School, which was put on lock down for a while. Neighbors were also asked to seek shelter in their basements while the situation was being diffused.

The standoff ended around 4 p.m., when the man surrendered ans was taken into custody without incident. He was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.

There were no injuries reported and the situation is still under investigation.
