Surprising Cenk Stat

Cenk Tosun has won the ball back in the final third more than any other Premier League player this term.

This is made even more impressive when considering the Turkish forward has only been used as a substitute in the Blues’ last several games.

Deja Vu

Never change, Rom.

The hulking Belgian - who is currently on international duty with Roberto Martinez’s side - has taken the break from Premier League football to discuss a potential move to Juventus.

Lukaku, plotting moves away with the foreign press?

Now where have we heard that one before?

Kenny Talks

Jonjoe Kenny has revealed he used his time out of the Everton team to improve several areas of his game.

Kenny deputised admirably for the injured Seamus Coleman last term - clocking in 14 appearances after making his debut in Ronald Koeman’s final game as Everton boss last year - and has once more stepped up to the plate following another absence for the Irish full-back.

“When you are playing regularly it is difficult to be doing stuff to improve your game because you want to be fresh for the match,” Kenny said.

“But I got told by a lot of ex-professionals, ‘While you are not playing, work on the things you need to work on’.

“That is what I tried to do, I did extra crossing, for example, and kept myself fit and healthy.

“With the new manager coming in I had to make sure I was bang on it.

“My attitude has never dropped with any manager I’ve had. I wanted to get in the team, I couldn’t be moping around. I had to keep doing what I do.

“I don’t want to be thinking I have made it, I am far away from that.

“I need to be coming in bang on it every day, doing extras and making sure I keep on top of myself.”

The right-back admitted he is also keen to bag his first goal for the Blues - but asserted a goal will eventually materialise.

“It would be a dream to score a goal for Everton. I might go a bit mad, do you know what I mean?” he added.

“When the time comes, you see how you feel.

“It will happen and I will love the moment but right now I just want to keep performing and be winning games.”

Loftus-Cheek Linked

Everton are being linked with a move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in January after reports suggested the midfielder will seek a loan move in January.

The Blues were considered front-runners for the 22-year-old’s signature during the summer - while he impressed with England at the World Cup - but Loftus-Cheek chose to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Since then, however, his opportunities have been non-existent under Maurizio Sarri and former Blue Ross Barkley has moved ahead of the young midfielder in the pecking order.

Former club Crystal Palace and Arsenal are also suggested as contenders for his signature.

Lookman's Criticism

Ademola Lookman has admitted England U21 boss Aidy Boothroyd told him some ‘home truths’ following the summer transfer circus which surrounded his name.

Lookman enjoyed a spell at RB Leipzig in Germany during the second-half of last season and is believed to have favoured a return to Die Rotten this summer.

The winger, however, remained on Merseyside with Everton and conceded he needed the strong words from Boothroyd.

“It’s very important [to hear criticism] because you can get caught up in this bubble,” Ademola said following his man-of-the-match performance in England’s 7-0 win over Andorra.

“When someone tells you, is real with you and tells you the truth it allows you to think and bring yourself back to reality.

“He spoke to me about [the proposed move to Leipzig] but I’ve just tried to put it behind me and move forward. I’m at Everton and I will do my best and train hard.

“I did [think the comments were fair]. I feel more settled now, the transfer window is behind me so I’m getting my head down and working hard.

“You want to play, that’s my objective, and I hope to do that soon. What’s out of my hands is out of my hands.”

When asked when he expects to break into Marco Silva’s first XI at Goodison Park, Lookman replied: “I couldn’t tell you, I don’t know. There’s competition but I’m always in competition with myself. I can only affect what I can affect and that’s all I’m working on.

“I wouldn’t call it frustration. It’s just opportunity, I haven’t had as much opportunity as I would have liked and I need to keep going forward and working hard. I can’t just stop, I’ve got to keep going.”

Gueye Injured

Not a big fan of the ‘Everton that’ saying at the best of times, but this really is Everton that.

Idrissa Gana Gueye - the man who has made more tackles than any other Premier League player this season - netted for Senegal against Sudan last night in their 3-0 AFCON qualifier.

He then went off injured in the 44th minute.

The extent of the damage is unknown as of yet, but with Senegal in action again on Tuesday, it remains to be seen whether Idrissa will be available for Everton’s clash with Crystal Palace next weekend.

Chris Beesley has more below.
