Everton are sweating on the fitness of Idrissa Gueye after he went off injured in Senegal's 3-0 victory over Sudan on Saturday night.

The Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Leopold Sedar Seghor Stadium in Dakar had started well for the defensive midfielder who netted what was only his second international goal in 55 appearances to put his side 2-0 up.

Gueye slid in to beat the keeper from 10 yards out after a low pass was laid off to him from the left-hand side of the area in the 18 minute of the game.

However, he was later withdrawn for Sidy Sarr after being on the receiving end of a strong challenge from a Sudanese opponent and his injury appeared to be to his ankle.

The 29-year-old has made seven appearances for the Blues this season but missed the games against Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town with a knee injury.

Marco Silva will now be eager to check on the player's fitness ahead of Everton's return to Premier League action at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday October 21.

Senegal are due to play their return match with Sudan at Khartoum Stadium on Tuesday.
