Nations League: Jorginho saves Italy’s blushes

Italy needed a late penalty from midfielder Jorginho to scrape a 1-1 draw to Poland in the UEFA Nations League on Friday, its first competitive game under coach Roberto Mancini.

Poland, playing its first match under new coach Jerzy Brzeczek, who replaced Adam Nawalka following their World Cup group stage exit, went ahead with a superbly executed Piotr Zielinski volley five minutes before half-time.

The results:

League A, Group 3: Italy 1 (Jorginhno 78-pen) drew with Poland 1 (Zielinski 40).

League B, Group 2: Turkey 1 (Aziz 41) lost to Russia 2 (Cheryshev 13, Dzyuba 49).

League C, Group 1: Albania 1 (Xhaka 55) bt Israel 0 and Group 4: Lithuania 0 lost to Serbia 1 (Tadic 38-pen), Romania 0 drew with Montenegro 0.

League D, Group 3: Azerbaijan 0 drew with Kosovo 0, Faroe Islands 3 (Edmundsson 31, Joensen 38, Hansson 52) bt Malta 1 (Mifsud 42) .
