If ranchers or farmers in northwest Oklahoma or desert communities in Arizona need rain then maybe they should contact the Wagoner Lady Bulldog softball team to make an appearance.
So far, anywhere Wagoner’s gone the rain has followed. It doesn’t matter if it’s a home or road game, either. This past week’s Bartlesville/Oklahoma Wesleyan tournament is a prime example.
The Lady Bulldogs were supposed to play as many as six games. Coach Mike Mills’ squad played two.
As of now, Wagoner is 4-2 on the season while nearby opponents are 11-5, 10-5, 6-4, 4-10, 5-7, etc.
“Everyone’s frustrated,” said left fielder Chloe Schilling. “We’re ready to play and it rains.”
Schilling’s most recent game against Ponca City found her getting two hits in three at-bats. There are others that are doing as well, but get stopped by the rain.

Schilling, a sophomore, said the season holds promise for the Lady Bulldogs. The lineup has shuffled and players are in new positions.
“A lot of positions shuffled, but it’s going well,” said Schilling, who moved from shortstop in 2017 to center field and now left. “Everyone’s comfortable where they are now.”
This past week was one of Wagoner’s best in a while. In four games, the Lady Bulldogs won three.
Wagoner toppled Okmulgee-Schulter 7-0 and 8-0 as pitcher Macy Robertson recorded both shutouts. Class 6A Jenks beat Wagoner 7-2.
The Lady Bulldogs’ 14-0 win over 6A’s Ponca City JV was a nice win, too.
On Monday, Aug. 27, Wagoner was scheduled to play host to Inola. The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Hilldale on Thursday, Aug. 30.
