Never mind the rough.

The talent is even deeper.

The 2018 Saskatchewan Amateur and Mid-Amateur golf championships feature arguably the deepest field yet when tournament play starts Tuesday morning at the Dakota Dunes Golf Links.

The 107th playing of the Saskatchewan Amateur features more than 120 golfers, most of them from Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Stewart captured this year’s Central Am at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club as well as the Scotia Wealth Open at Nipawin.

Timmerman, who completed his first year of collegiate golf in Arkansas, won this year’s Lobstick at Waskesiu along with the Great Western Brewing Saskatoon City Amateur, which was played at the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club, Holiday Park Golf Club and Riverside Country Club.

Stewart is among the former Sask Am champions in the field. Others include multiple-winner Scott Thompson of St. Walburg, Justin Wood of Unity, Tyler Frank of Saskatoon and Delisle’s Colin Coben.

Stewart and Frank are also former Saskatchewan junior champions along with Yorkton’s Kade Johnson and Prince Albert’s Cory Selander, who are also competing at Dakota this week, plus current Saskatchewan junior champion Josh Nagy of Saskatoon.

Reigning Saskatchewan Mid-Am champion Brad Phelps, a two-time winner, will also be in the field. So will past mid-Am champs Stewart (2015), Frank (2012), Ryan McNall (2013) and Torrie Coghlin, who won back in 2010. Coghlin, who was the Alabama state mid-amateur champion in 2013, returns to the Saskatchewan Amateur for the first time since 2015. He, wife Sarah and daughter Jenna make their home in Irondale, Alabama.
