The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is search for a swimmer who disappeared in the Tippecanoe River near Springboro, Ind.

Indiana Conservation Officers responded to a report of a swimmer in distress after 8 a.m. Sunday on the Tippecanoe River at the Tecumseh Bend, about 80 miles northwest of Indianapolis, according to a release from the DNR.

Witnesses saw a man floating downstream and yelling for help, but were unable to help him before he disappeared under water.

Searches along the shore and by boat occurred, according to the DNR, but recent heavy rains prevented divers from searching. Conservation Officers will continue to search, the report said.

The DNR said heavy rains caused higher-than-normal river levels and strong currents, and urge swimmers and others on the water to always wear a life jacket.
