Writing Class for Adults

“Unleash the Writer Within” is designed to help adult writers at various levels, from beginning to advanced. We put writing and generating new material at the core of our practice. We jump in, using guided writing prompts, writing by hand, meeting ourselves on the page, letting the words tumble out as the perfect clay with which to build and shape our stories. You can use this class to start essays, poetry, short stories, flash fiction, chapters for memoir and novels, and more. Last meeting

Meet the Grunion at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s last “Meet the Grunion” program of the year. The Aquarium will open at 8 p.m. and a film on grunion begins at 9 p.m. in the John M. Olguin Auditorium. Family walk

This naturalist -ed nature walk includes a visit to the Tongva Native Plant Gardens, where you will learn how early inhabitants of the peninsula used native plant species for thousands of years. Then walk the preserve’s paths through exquisitely restored coastal sage scrub habitat. Stop at a former gun emplacement to learn about the military history of the area. The walk concludes with a visit to the wonderful Nature Education Center with activities for all ages. Held every 3rd Saturday, this is a moderate walk. Free. 9 a.m. 1600 W. Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Photography + Paintings

Meet the artists, enjoy live music. This June, Artlife Gallery invited the LA Photo Gang Meetup to host a photography exhibit depicting their best images of Los Angeles. The works, captured by a dozen LA photographers, are an invitation to travel around the city, inside the hunting eyes and spirit of the photographers. Mexican art

Aluminum is not what most people think of when they think of art, but repujado, the Mexican art of embossing metal, can turn even this practical metal into works of beauty. Join Miriam H. Quezada for a two-session class at the library and learn how to make repujado art. Free.
