Summer Nature Program is being offered

The Hunterdon County Division of Parks and Recreation’s Summer Nature Program (SNP)  is offered simultaneously at Echo Hill Park and Teetertown Preserve. While space may be limited for certain weeks and locations, there are still plenty of opportunities available for your child to be involved. Raritan Township police blotter

Jakayla D. Oaks, 22, of Canton, Ohio, was charged at 10:27 a.m. June 4 n the parking lot of Travel Inn on Route 202-31 with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Nicholas Bianco, 21, of Flemington,  was charged  with trespassing and harassment in the Hunterdon Central High School library.  Aseel W. Al Radeai, 19, of Jamaica, N.Y., and a juvenile male were charged at 12:42 a.m. June 5 on Route 202fwith possession of a narcotic known as “Khat.” Al Radeai was also issued motor vehicle summonses for speeding, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Delroy A. Smickle, 46, of Stewartsville, was charged with eluding on Route 31 by Hunterdon Medical Center at 1:55 p.m. June 5 for eluding. Smickle was also charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, obstructing the administration of law, improper signaling, failure to keep right, unclear license plate, uninsured vehicle, careless driving, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, littering, and maintenance of lamps. 

Raritan Twp. land preserved

The Hunterdon County Freeholders have approved open space grants to the Delaware and Raritan (D&R) Greenway and Raritan Township, to go along with state Green Acres funds, to preserve 42 acres on Plum Brook Road  in Raritan Township adjacent to 75 acres already preserved. The 42-acre Francavilla property adjoins 75 acres of open space already preserved by Raritan Township. The freeholders authorized an $85,690 non-profit grant to D&R Greenway and a $128,535 Cooperative grant to Raritan Township, from the county’s Open Space Fund, that will match the 50 percent funding of the total cost by the state’s Green Acres program, to preserve the property that surrounds the Pine Brook.

College for Teens Program 

This summer the Office of Continuing Education at Union County College in Cranford is offering the 2018 College for Teens program sponsored by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The program is offered for two sessions. Each session will be conducted for two weeks and will meet from Monday through Thursday. The morning session will run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, July 9, to Thursday, July 19. The afternoon session will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, July 16, to Thursday, July 26. The completed application package can be faxed to 908-709-7070, emailed to youthprograms@ucc.edu or delivered to the Office of Continuing Education at 1033 Springfield Ave. in Cranford. Freeholder board offers more CPR classes

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is providing two additional CPR training classes in June. The classes are conducted by personnel from the Division of Emergency Services in the Union County Department of Public Safety. Participants pay only for course materials, which total $19.50 for the classroom manual and certification card. Both classes are open to all Union County residents. Prior experience or training in emergency medical care is not required. Participants may choose either of the following dates: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, (includes additional First Aid training); and 6 to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19. All classes will be held in the Union County Emergency Services Building, at 535 Laurel Ave. in Roselle Park. The materials fee of $19.50 is accepted by check, made out to RWJ Rahway (checks will be collected at the beginning of class). Registration is online at ucnj.org/public-safety/division-of-emergency-services. Pallone, Markey introduce robocall bills

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) recently introduced the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act (H.R. 6026) in the House of Representatives to stop abusive robocall practices. Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-MA) recently introduced similar legislation in the Senate as well. Pallone’s bill would direct the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to enact strong consumer protections for authorized calls and empower the FCC with strong enforcement tools to reign in robocallers. New guest cottage unveiled

Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains recently announced the opening of the new R.W. Nelson Guest House. The renovation of this former rustic cottage provides fine overnight accommodations for members and guests of the club. The first guest to enjoy the luxury space was LPGA golfer Jan Stephenson who visited the club in May to conduct a short game clinic for members and showcase her award winning California wines. Senior meal site celebrates anniversary

The Nutrition Program for the Elderly senior meal program offered at the Edison Senior Center, 2963 Woodbridge Ave., is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and partnership with Edison Township. One of eight sites throughout Middlesex County, the Edison site has served 69,500 congregate meals and provided 283,720 home delivered meals over this 10-year period. Rapoport earns national certification

Sylvia Rapoport, vice president and marketing manager, Amboy Bank in Old Bridge, was recently awarded the Certified Financial Marketing Professional (CFMP) certification from the American Bankers. The CFMP certification is awarded to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of financial services marketing. To qualify for the CFMP certification, individuals must have certain levels of experience and education in the financial services marketing profession, pass an exam and agree to abide by a code of ethics. Agency takes home four trophies

R&J Strategic Communications, an integrated marketing and public relations agency based in Bridgewater, was honored with four Jersey Awards in recognition for outstanding public relations, advertising, graphic design and social media work delivered in support of clients across a range of industries. Phleps is appointed new pastor
