Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Editor’s Note: This police blotter report covers March 21 through March 31 2018. Charges include operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, a DUI, and  felony unauthorized possession of prescription forms. 

eNews Park Forest reports this information because the public in the United States has the right to know.  When that information is withheld or under-reported, it leaves questions.  We also want to show the work that the police force does every day that is not reported.  Police in Park Forest respond to thousands of calls per year, the vast majority of which do not entail arrests.  Whether it’s conducting a routine investigation, pulling over a drunk driver, or responding to a possible theft at a store, the work of the police officer deserves acknowledgement by the public.

An arrest does not mean that a person is guilty. All those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty. It is the policy of eNews Park Forest to not remove items in the public record from publication. If your name is listed in the police reports, we will only add information relevant to the final disposition of the case at hand, e.g. “Mr. Smith was subsequently acquitted,” “Mr. Smith entered a guilty plea,” or “All charges against Mr. Smith were subsequently dropped.” We will do so upon receiving and verifying proof of such disposition.

Progress On Fatal Shooting On Algonquin Street

An officer told eNews Park Forest that detectives are making progress on the April 27 shooting on Algonquin Street that left one dead. Two men were shot. One of the men died as a result of his injuries, Park Forest Police said in a statement. As this remains an active investigation, police are not releasing any more details.

Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle

John E. Collins, 46, 7 Minocqua Court, Park Forest, was arrested on March 21 and issued traffic citations charging fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no front registration, and failure to signal when required. Mr. Collins was additionally charged with one count of obstructing/resisting a peace officer.

An officer patrolling in a vehicle traveling westbound on Sauk Trail at approximately 8:16 AM observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Sauk Trail that had no front-mounted registration, according to police. The vehicle turned right onto Minocqua Street. At the intersection of Minocqua Street and Shabbona Drive, the officer activated emergency lights on his patrol vehicle. The vehicle continued eastbound on Minocqua Street, never stopping, and turned left onto Minocqua court, according to police. The vehicle also failed to signal when turning, according to police.

The officer activated the siren on his patrol vehicle. The vehicle continued northbound onto Minocqua Court and pulled into the driveway of 7 Minocqua Court, according to police. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as John E. Collins, exited the vehicle. The officer exited his patrol vehicle and immediately ordered Mr. Collins to stay in the vehicle. Mr. Collins allegedly continued to walk towards the front door of the residence. The officer approached Mr. Collins, grabbed him by the left arm, and again informed him to stay in the car. Mr. Collins allegedly began yelling at the officer, stating “Why are you bothering me? Why are you bothering me?”

Mr. Collins then allegedly began to thrust his arm forward and hurried towards the front door of the residence, according to police. Mr. Collins entered the residence and quickly shut the door, according to police. Other officers arrived on the scene. At approximately 8:32 AM, Mr. Collins exited the residence and was taken into custody, according to police.

Domestic Battery

Kein A. Reid, 28, 18620 Walnut Ave., Country Club Hills, was arrested on March 22 and charged with one count of domestic battery after police responded to the 22000 block of Central Park Avenue in reference to a report of a domestic dispute. According to police, Mr. Reid allegedly pushed a female victim to the floor, allegedly kicked the victim in the face causing swelling and a small cut to the lower lip, and allegedly threatened that, if he were to be arrested, “he would hunt her down and kill her,” according to the police report. Mr. Reid denied ever battering the victim in any way, according to police.

Possession of Cannabis

Taft L. Wilkerson Jr., 23, 23040 East Dr., Richton Park, was issued a municipal citation on March 22 charging possession of cannabis and a ticket charging speeding when an officer observed the vehicle Mr. Wilkerson was driving allegedly traveling eastbound on Sauk Trail at a high rate of speed, 56 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone, according to police. Mr. Wilkerson’s vehicle was towed and seized under local ordinance.

Possession of Cannabis

Nathan J. Robinson Jr., 22, 11 Olympic Village, Unit 1B, Chicago Heights, was issued municipal tickets charging possession of cannabis and one headlight on March 23. An officer observed that the vehicle Mr. Robinson was driving eastbound on Sauk Trail at approximately 1:10 AM had only one working headlight, according to police.

A passenger in the vehicle, Leon D. Agnew, 24, 115 Indiana St., Park Forest, was issued a municipal ticket charging possession of drug paraphernalia.

Another passenger, Elishia R. Harris, 22, 551 Nathan Rd., University Park, was issued a municipal ticket charging possession of cannabis. Mr. Agnew and fourth passenger were released at the scene. The vehicle was towed and seized under local ordinance. The officer transported Mr. Robinson and Ms. Harris to Olympic Village in Chicago Heights.

DUI

Edmund T. Robinson, 39, 638 Sunset Dr., Glenwood, was arrested on March 26 and charged with driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol, no proof of insurance, and improper lane use. At approximately 2:57 AM, an officer traveling on Western Avenue southbound behind the vehicle Mr. Robinson was driving observed the vehicle in front of him drift over the broken white line from the left lane, straddle the white line, before returning to the left lane, according to police. The vehicle did this three times before its right turn signal was activated and the vehicle crossed over two lanes into the right turn lane at Norwood Boulevard, according to police.

Criminal Damage To Property

Cornell L. Roberson, 18, 207 Gold St., Park Forest, was arrested on March 26 and charged with one count of criminal damage to property when police were dispatched to the 200 block of Gold Street to investigate a report of a disturbance. According to police, Mr. Roberson allegedly kicked the glass on the front door of a residence in the 200 block of Gold Street and allegedly broke out the front window to the residence.

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Jonathan L. Louden, 18, 14621 Dante Ave., Chicago, was arrested on March 28 and charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of cannabis when an officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Sauk Trail that had only one working headlight, according to police. The officer curbed the vehicle between Indianwood Boulevard and Orchard Drive. Mr. Louden was a passenger in the vehicle which was towed from the scene and seized under local ordinance. The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation charging operating a vehicle with one headlight.

Criminal Damage To Property

Christopher T. Cosgrove, 40, 142 Marquette St., Park Forest, was arrested on March 28 and charged with one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property when police were dispatched to the first block of East Rocket Circle to investigate a report of a disturbance. Dispatch advised police that a male subject damaged a residence and left the scene. A homeowner observed Mr. Cosgrove allegedly damage a window and a wooden fence panel, according to police.

Felony Unauthorized Possession of Prescription Forms

Josephues Lindsey, 26, 15262 Calitonia Dr., Markham, was arrested on March 30 and charged with felony unauthorized possession of prescription forms and misdemeanor charges of unlawful possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while driver’s license was suspended, a non-functioning rear registration light, and illegally transporting an alcohol container outside of its packaging.

An officer was on patrol in a fully marked squad car parked and overseeing vehicles in the Marathon Gas Station parking lot, 385 Sauk Trail, at 12:15 AM. The officer observed a vehicle pull into the Marathon parking lot next to a gas pump.

The officer conducted a LEADS inquiry on the vehicle’s registration and learned that the owner of the vehicle, Josephues Lindsey, had a suspended driver’s license.

The officer observed the driver exit the Marathon Gas Station, get back into the vehicle, and the vehicle left the gas station parking lot, traveling eastbound on Sauk Trail.

The officer began following the vehicle and observed that the car’s rear registration light wasn’t illuminated, according to police. The officer activated the emergency lights of his squad and the vehicle stopped in the first block of Sauk Trail. After confirming that Mr. Lindsey’s driver’s license was suspended, Mr. Lindsey was placed under arrest. While conducting an inventory of Mr. Lindsey’s vehicle, among other items, police discovered 19 Cook County health and Hospital Systems prescription forms which were blank. None of the prescription forms contained any writing, according to police.

Domestic Battery

Shannon K. Thomas, 38, 70 Water St., Park Forest, was arrested on March 30 and charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property when police responded to the first block of Water Street to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. Mr. Thomas allegedly broke a flatscreen television, a dresser mirror in a bedroom, and allegedly shoved his open hand in a female victim’s face, knocking her off balance, according to police.

Domestic Battery

Michael J. Rubinas, 38, 103 Nanti St., Park Forest, was arrested on March 30 and charged with domestic battery when police responded to the 100 block of Nanti Street to investigate a report of domestic battery. Mr. Rubinas allegedly punched a female victim in the jaw, according to police.

Driving While License Suspended

Dijjonnae V. Sewell, 24, 701 Red Oak Lane, University Park, was arrested on March 31 and charged with driving while license was suspended, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, one headlight, and possession of cannabis. An officer traveling northbound on Western Avenue near Sauk Trail observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Western Avenue that had only one headlight illuminated, according to police. The officer initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle on Sauk Trail, east of Western Avenue. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Dijjonnae V. Sewell, displayed “slurred speech and had bloodshot, glassy eyes,” according to the report. Ms. Sewell’s vehicle was towed from the scene and seized per local ordinance after police discovered a small clear nodded plastic bag containing a green leafy plant-like substance, suspect cannabis, in the dashboard compartment, according to police.

Active Warrant, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Wayne D. Caluya, 20, 17 Oak Lane, Park Forest, was arrested on March 31 and issued a municipal citations charging criminal trespass, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, and issued a traffic citation charging driving while license was suspended.

An officer traveling westbound on Apple Street observed that the driver of a vehicle traveling northbound on Lester Road looked familiar, according to police.

The officer followed the vehicle which pulled into a driveway in the first block of Apple Lane. The officer conducted a LEADS inquiry and learned that the vehicle was registered to Wayne D. Caluya, and that Mr. Caluya had an active Will County Arrest Warrant (failure to appear) on a previous charge of driving without a license, according to police.

No Valid Driver’s License

Whitney L. Bonds, 27, 22411 Butterfield Rd., Richton Park, was arrested on March 31 and issued a municipal citation charging possession of cannabis and traffic citations charging expired registration and no valid driver’s license. An officer patrolling in the area of Sauk Trail and Western Avenue at 10:53 PM conducted a law enforcement inquiry on the registration of a vehicle and discovered that the registration of the vehicle was expired. Ms. Bonds’ vehicle was towed from the scene as Ms. Bonds had no valid driver’s license, according to police.
