One person was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Maryland, transportation authorities said.

A train headed out of the Washington, D.C.'s Union Station on Monday afternoon struck a pedestrian, authorities said. The pedestrian was declared dead on the scene, the Prince George's County Fire department said.

The Maryland Department of Transportation said the pedestrian was trespassing when they were struck.

The collision happened outside the Cheverly Metro station in Maryland, authorities said.

The Penn Line and all other Amtrak services between Washington and New Carrollton were suspended. Service was restored with residual delays later Monday evening.
