Assassin’s Creed Origins – will the next one be a direct follow-up?

Ubisoft is rumoured to be well into making the next Assassin’s Creed game, with work having reportedly started two years ago.

For the first time since they started making sequels Ubisoft gave Assassin’s Creed the year off in 2016, before releasing Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017. That resulted in a better game than usual, but the question ever since has been how often will new games come out now?

If the latest rumours are to believed it seems as if Ubisoft are working on a follow-up to be released next year and which will be set in Ancient Greece.

According to website Comic Book, whose writer Liam Robertson is well known for his work on Unseen64, Origins was originally meant to incorporate Ancient Greece as well as Egypt but got slimmed down for the final release.

That makes it sounds like the new game would be more of a spin-off than a true sequel, as has happened with several Assassin’s Creed games in the past.

But it’s equally possible the new game may sever direct connections with Origins and set itself in a different time period to make sure it gets the widest possible number of famous Ancient Greek characters.

Either way the game is supposedly scheduled for late 2019 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Which is probably what most people would’ve guessed even without any rumours.

As you’d expect there’s no sign of a Switch version, but apparently Ubisoft are considering a spin-off or a port of an older title for Nintendo’s console.
