Bingham rides balanced attack to beat Riverton

South Jordan • Not a single player from the Bingham Miners stood apart on the basketball court Friday.

In fact, guard Luke Tueller led Bingham with 13 points. But perhaps that was the key to the Miners’ success.

Standout offensive execution and solid defense helped Bingham eventually pull away from Riverton 64-54.

“That’s one thing that I love about this team,” said Tueller, who went 9 of 10 from the free-throw line. “We don’t always have one guy that drops 20 a night. Everyone is going to do their part to get a win.”

Riverton appeared to wear down in the fourth quarter as Bingham penetrated into the heart of the Silverwolves defense for multiple layups. Bingham’s Brayden Cosper and Ryan Wood, both tallied 11 points, made consecutive buckets in the waning moments to seal the win.

“Down the stretch, we were hard to guard,” Bingham coach Jake Schroeder said. “I know it isn’t the prettiest basketball and we don’t have a leading scorer in the state, but that has been our M.O., and it’s what has made us effective.”

Riverton’s Richie Saunders, who scored a game-high 16 points, did his best to keep his team within striking distance. But too many fouls and turnovers by the Silverwolves doomed Riverton.

The Silverwolves offense struggled in the game’s opening moments. That was until Saunders drove the length of the floor and slammed home a thunderous dunk over two defenders. It was just what was needed to inspire Riverton’s offense.

Both teams struggled mightily to hit 3-pointers in the opening period. However, as the contest progressed, both teams settled into an effective offensive rhythm in a back-and-forth affair.
