Violent crimes ‘up’ in Milledgeville after two shootings Thursday night

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Investigators with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office are looking for suspects after being called on two separate shootings last night in Milledgeville.

Deputies first responded to a drive-by shooting on 165th Street just after 10:00 PM where shots were fired at a residence. No description of the suspect’s vehicle is available.

There were several people inside the home at the time, but no one was hurt. Detectives talked to a witness who says they saw what looked like a group of people tampering with evidence–standing in the area kicking shell casings around on the road.

By the time they arrived, no one was there.

Then around 11:00 PM Baldwin County investigators were diverted to a shooting that happened inside Milledgeville Manor.  A 19 year-old female was riding in her car when gun shots were fired into the car. She was hit in the right leg and then taken to Navicent Health for treatment.

The woman is now in stable condition. Detectives are processing evidence found inside of her car.

Captain Brad King says at this time–given the nature of the two crimes–they don’t believe them to be related. They believe the timing was just coincidence.

“Unfortunately, over the last couple of years we have most decidedly had an increase in fire arm related incidents. This year violent crime is up. We are currently working on our sixth murder which is high for our department. Unfortunately, we are experiencing gun crime on a fairly regular basis,” he said.

The investigation is on-going. If you have any information regarding the incident contact the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office at  478- 445-4891.
