Microsoft, Amazon and 14 other Washington state companies received perfect scores on an annual report that rates how well companies treat LGBTQ employees.

The 16 companies all scored 100 points on the report from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Besides Microsoft and Amazon, the Washington companies  —  all in the Puget Sound area  — were Boeing, Alaska Airlines, Slalom, Group Health Cooperative, Washington Permanente Medical Group,  Expedia, Davis Wright Tremaine, Lane Powell, Perkins Coie, Fortive, Nordstrom, Outerwall, Starbucks and T-Mobile.

HRC considers companies’ non-discrimination policies that mention sexual orientation and gender identity, as well as benefits for lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender and queer employees.

Companies across the country, particularly in the tech industry, have been reforming their diversity policies in the last few years as they face increased criticism that they aren’t doing enough to be inclusive.

Technology is still mainly a white-, male-dominated field, something that’s been underscored in the past two years as big companies started releasing race and gender breakdowns of their workforces.

These reports don’t always include information about LGBTQ employees, but the HRC said it is seeing encouraging trends toward inclusion, with 609 U.S. companies scoring 100 this year, compared to 517 last year.

Language protecting gender identity against discrimination now appears in 83 percent of Fortune 500 companies, compared to 3 percent 15 years ago, according to the report.

The HRC’s full report ranks nearly 1,000 companies.
