200 More Crews Arriving From Out of State to Restore Power

Power remains out for thousands homes and businesses and there are more than 80 school closings and delays Tuesday morning after a large storm whipped through Connecticut and crews from Eversource said it could be a couple of days before people have power in parts of the state.

The storm brought heavy rain and high winds, throughout Sunday night. Some gusts exceeded 60 miles per hour, with winds of 73 miles per hour in Stonington.

As of 3:15 p.m., power is out for 47,000 homes and businesses.

The power outage comes amid a frost advisory that is posted for this evening.  

Eversource is also bringing in more than 200 additional crews from Florida, Ohio, Alabama, Tennessee and New York.

According to Tweets from the company, Eversource expects to have power restored in Coventry by 6 p.m. and by noon Thursday in Ledyard and the Stonington-North Stonington area.

At one point, Norwich Public Utilities had 3,400 power outages. As of Tuesday afternoon, there are 160 outages.

United Illuminating is reporting 361 outages as of 3:15 p.m.
