LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – An overheated dryer sparked a fire Friday morning at a laundromat in Lauderdale Lakes, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane said in a news release.

The fire was reported about 10:30 a.m. at Sud's Laundry Center at 4110 N. State Road 7.

Kane said the official cause of the fire is under investigation, but it appears that a dryer might have been overloaded with clothing, causing the motor to overheat and catch fire.

He said customers were inside the laundromat at the time, but no one was injured.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the business.

Kane said BSO's HAZMAT responded to the scene and monitored the business, as well as adjacent businesses for carbon monoxide. No other businesses were affected by the fire.

Kane said the damage was limited to the single dryer.
