Updated Monday evening, September 10........There is a lot of talk and news reports going on about hurricane Florence and rightly so. This is a major life threatening storm for the Carolinas.However a rare tropical storm hit for Hawaii will happen Tuesday night. While there have been some near misses this year for Hawaii including Hurricane Lane that caused some flooding but never made landfall in Hawaii, this will be the first hit since 2016 when Tropical Storm Darby came ashore on the Big Island with 40 mph winds.Here is how rare a land falling tropical system is for the Hawaiian Islands.There have been only 3 hurricanes and 3 tropical storms to make landfall on Hawaii since the 1840's.Olivia has winds of 70 mph as of Monday evening and is located 560 miles east of Honolulu.The storm is expected to go right across Maui late Tuesday night and early Wednesday with winds of 60-65 mph. .If the winds are at 65 mph at landfall, then it will be the strongest system to hit Hawaii since Hurricane Iniki in 1992.High winds and flooding are possible on Maui, the Big Island and possibly Oahu which includes Honolulu.Here is some more info.........
