WATCH: Black Republican Tim Scott rips Roy Moore for 'ignorant' slavery comments
Sen. Tim Scott, R-SC, speaks to "Meet the Press"

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) took Alabama Senate candidate -- and accused child molester -- Roy Moore to task on Sunday for his remarks saying that America was "great" when black people were slaves. Scott also sharply contradicted Rep. Steve King (R-IA)'s assertion that "diversity is not our strength" in the U.S. but is a hindrance.

Politico reported that Scott was forthright in his denunciation of Moore, saying that he didn't support the twice-ousted former Alabama chief justice before allegations that he molested multiple underage girls when he was in his 30s.

“Well, [there is] very little that I can do about people who speak ignorantly," Scott told "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd on Sunday. "And you just have to call it for what it is, No. 1."

He continued, "No. 2, the bottom line is both when Steve King and Tim Scott arrived in this country, we were actually creating diversity because the Native Americans were already here. So that is just a ridiculous statement.”

“Listen, I wasn't supporting Roy Moore before the allegations. The allegations reinforced why I wasn't there,” said Scott, who is the only black Republican in the U.S. Senate.
