The Police in Lagos have dragged the Managing Director of Dominican Global Resources Company, Mafoluku area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, Sefulu Presly, 47 before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N10.5 million from two people, with the promise to supply them 66,000 litres of diesel,but instead, escaped with the money.
The suspect was said to have collected N5,750,000 from a lady, Miss Omowumi and N5m from a businessman, Fredrick Uduojie to purchase diesel from.
A Police source said that the Police at Ajah Division, Lagos later arrested the accused at a hideout following a tip off.
After investigation, the accused, a resident of Ayodele area of Mafoloku, Oshodi, Lagos was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, on an eight count-charge of felony to wit, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
Police Counsel, Abbass Abayomi informed the Court that the accused committed the offence on 24 August, 2017 in Ajah.
Abayomi told the Court that the accused tricked the complainants and collected a total sum of N10.5m from them to
supply them 66,000 litres of diesel, but that after the accused collected the money from the complainants, he failed to supply the diesel.
He said that the accused also issued an LPO bearing Amcon Asset management Corporation to Miss Omowumi to convince her that he had transactions with the firm, a claim the Police said that the accused knew to be false just to dupe the complainant.
Abayomi further said that the accused issued a Zenith Bank cheque valued at N5,750,000 to Omowumi with the pretext of paying back the money, but that when she presented the cheque in the bank for payment, it was rejected due to lack of funds in the said account.
Abayomi added that the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 411, 314(1)(a), 287(a), 321(b) and 363(b) of the criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime and Chief Magistrate A.O Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N5m with two sureties in like sum.
Komolafe adjourned the case till 27 February, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be remanded at Ikoyi Prison, till he fulfilled the bail conditions.
