Vivianne Miedema starred with four goals as Arsenal beat Slavia Prague 5-2 to take a huge step towards the Uefa Women's Champions League quarter-finals.

Netherlands international Miedema was in scintillating form as she scored a first-half hat-trick for the Gunners, netting three times in the opening 39 minutes to all but wrap up the two-legged tie as a contest.

Miedema scored her fourth after 52 minutes, and Arsenal were five goals to the good six minutes later as Kim Little added another.

Slavia Prague gave the scoreline an air of respectability as they found the net twice before the full-time whistle, but the result leaves the Czech side needing to beat Arsenal by four clear goals - or beat them by a three-goal margin and score at least five in the process - in the return leg on October 31.

Joe Montemurro's side are looking to make a dent in Europe after winning the Women's Super League title last season, though will likely have to face overwhelming favourites Lyon at some stage as the French club aim to lift the trophy for the seventh time in their history.
