The Giants’ just picked a defensive weapon who can “do it all.”

That’s what safety Tyler Nubin said about himself at least, shortly after New York picked him in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 47th overall. Speaking with reporters on a conference call on Friday, the versatile defender seemed eager to prove what he can do with his new club.

“I’m an everything player, man,” Nubin said. “I feel like I’m a guy that can do it all on the field. I like to call myself a Swiss Army knife. I can move around everywhere. I can blitz. I can come down and hit in the box. I can play over the top. Anywhere on the field, I’m comfortable.”

He has big shoes to fill. Nubin’s selection comes nearly two months after Joe Schoen let safety Xavier McKinney, an ex-second rounder himself, skip town for a big payday with the Green Bay Packers in free agency — a strong indicator of how the second-year GM values that position.

Let’s see if he can replicate some of the four-year vet’s production in year one . PFF gave the two safeties similar PFF metrics coming out of college — Nubin had a 89.2 PFF grade his final year, while McKinney had an 86.9 — so that’s at least one positive sign for Schoen and Brian Daboll entering the transition phase.

Schoen gushed about Nubin when asked about him in his post third-round presser — and made sure to note how he’s getting a “value” for him in the post-McKinney era.

“We were very, very fortunate to get Nubin there,” said Schoen. “A guy that we spent a lot of time with. When he had an injury, we went to see him out there. Obviously to lose X in the offseason, to get a guy with that value, that character, that leadership — smart, tough, dependable — and then the 13 career interceptions. Just a good football player.”
