Less than week after fire forced evacuation of theater, Flying Monkey reopens
Days after a fire at a pizza restaurant in Plymouth, the neighboring Flying Monkey theater reopened Friday night.
On Saturday, the fire did major damage to Downtown Pizza next to the theater, and more than 400 people had to evacuate the Flying Monkey.
The performance venue sustained only minor smoke damage, and one person suffered minor injuries.
Investigators are still working to determine how the fire started.
One concertgoer told News 9 he reacted quickly when he heard there was a fire happening outside.
"I was shocked. Of course, I got right on the phone calling people I know in the area trying to figure out what's happening," Bob Glassett said.
Since Saturday, the Flying Monkey's general manager said his team has been working all week to clean-up the place. He said they are thankful the building only sustained smoke damage.
"The fact that they kept it contained to just these two structures is an absolute miracle," Steve Southworth said. "It was really just that smell, the stuff that sticks to the fabrics."
New Hampshire-based band Recycled Percussion has announced a concert for next month to thank the first responders who helped save the historic venue.
