Double-murder and abduction suspect Elias Huizar, 39, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after a pursuit heading southbound on I-5 near Eugene, OR. Abducted one-year-old Roman Santos was found with him and is safe with Oregon State Patrol troopers.

EUGENE, Ore. - The suspected murderer of two women and abductor of a one-year-old child from West Richland is confirmed dead after a pursuit near Eugene, Oregon, according to the West Richland Police Department.

Elias Huizar, 39, was spotted at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday by the Oregon State Patrol driving southbound on I-5.

An Oregon Department of Transportation traffic camera shows heavy traffic backup on I-5 near Eugene at 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday.

WRPD Commander Mitchell Coates confirmed with NonStop Local that the pursuit ended after Huizar died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The one-year-old child, Roman Santos, is safe and was taken in by OSP troopers.

WRPD says a press conference with more information will be released on Wed., April 24 at 10 a.m.
