BOSTON — Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said the team wanted to get a look at Jason Megna and that Johnny Beecher was still part of Boston’s postseason plans.

The Bruins called up Megna, a 34-year-old veteran forward from Providence and loaned Beecher to the AHL prior to Tuesday’s regular-season finale against Ottawa.

“We haven’t seen him yet. He’s had a really good year but in the last two months has caught fire and has been really consistently good down there,” Montgomery said. “We’ve looked a lot of players over the course of the year. This was an opportunity to look at him.”

Megna has 203 career NHL games under his belt for the Ducks, Avalanche, Canucks and Rangers. He had 18 goals and 33 assists for Providence.

He and James van Riemsdyk will join the lineup on Tuesday with Beecher coming out and Pat Maroon not playing in a back-to-back.

Asked if Beecher, who has been one of the team’s best on faceoffs, was still part of the team’s postseason plans, Montgomery said:

“Absolutely.”
