On Tuesday, 19-year-old Jeremy Castillo Ortiz made his first appearance in court.
Castillo Ortiz is charged with principal to attempted second-degree murder after deputies say he was involved in a fight that led to a shooting Sunday night at Manny Rodriguez Park in Deltona.
This all comes after deputies revealed there was a fight at the park. One neighbor's surveillance camera caught this screaming at the park that night, followed by rapid fire.
In the court document WESH 2 obtained, we learned that the fight was over a girl.
"How are we so short tempered that we're not solving issues societally through conversation rather than this somewhere some skill sets not getting taught or is getting forgotten or has been too permissive," said Dana McCool, Deltona City Commissioner. "So that's what we need to get back and address."
McCool believes gun safety is something that needs to be talked about.
"I'm trying to educate parents, young adults, better on what the hazards are," McCool said.
"Now you have somebody that's in the hospital in bad condition over a stupid argument," McCool added. "It was really over a junior high school argument."
Castillo Ortiz is currently being held without bond.
