Forty-three-year-old Ulices Pineda, who is originally from Illinois but who was living in Bridgeport at the time of the shooting, has died; the prosecutor’s office did not say how he died.

Pineda was due in court in July after he was indicted on one count of murder and one count of use or presentation of a firearm during the commission of a felony earlier this year.

The shooting happened on June 13, 2023, on Hamill Avenue and N. 15th Street at around 10 p.m., Clarksburg Police Chief Mark Kiddy said in a press release at the time Mazza’s death was announced.

Investigators used “an abundance of video surveillance” and a license plate reader to pinpoint a suspect vehicle, which led them to identify Pineda as the suspect in the shooting. He was arrested at his James Street home, and when law enforcement officers conducted a search of the home, they found ammunition matching what was found at the scene, as well as a firearm of the same caliber.
