UK cold weather maps show a -3C Norwegian blast pummelling into the UK in a deterioration of conditions. Maps and charts from WX Charts, which use Met Desk data, show a minus three Celsius blast hitting the country from Scandinavia.

The projections from the weather forecaster, which issues updates daily, shows Scotland will see the mercury drop as low as -3C. Aberdeen and Inverness will see the mercury plunge to -2C, too, in a teeth-chattering weather shift.

Wick, along with towns and cities in northern England like Newcastle and Carlisle, will freeze in 0C conditions while the rest of the country - from Manchester in the North West to Plymouth in the south, capital city London and Birmingham in the West Midlands - is braced for temperatures languishing between 1C and 3C.

The worst of the weather is anticipated about Wednesday April 17, WX Charts states. But delivering its own verdict on its website, the Met Office says it doesn't expect temperatures to dip quite that low, after a three-day 22C mini-heatwave hit this weekend.

The outlook for Wednesday onwards reads: "Generally drier for the rest of the week though some showers possible at times. Often breezy. Temperatures around the seasonal average and not feeling as warm than of late."

And looking ahead from April 18 onwards, the Met Office adds: "From Friday onwards and into the new week a build of high pressure will likely occur, meaning more in the way of dry weather across the UK as a whole. Cloud cover is rather uncertain, as some cloudy and clear regions are expected, with the chance of frost and fog where the clearer conditions are to be found overnight.

"A few light showers or some will still be possible at times, if these develop they will be slightly more likely to affect northern and eastern areas. Temperatures will overall be close to average, probably quite a muted daily cycle in cloudier areas.

"However, in clearer areas, some chilly nights are likely alongside days that will feel fairly mild in any sunshine."
