Low-cost carrier easyJet has unveiled nine new routes from the United Kingdom ahead of this winter season. Destinations are set to include France, Morocco, Tunisia, and an exciting new Icelandic connection; Akureyri (AEY).

Newest additions

In collaboration with its tour subsidiary, easyJet Holidays, the carrier will offer package breaks for British tourists looking to immerse themselves in unique Northern Icelandic culture and the Myvatn Nature Baths. Direct flights will be available from easyJet’s base at London Gatwick Airport (LGW) twice a week, launching on October 31.

“We are happy to welcome easyJet customers to North Iceland, where they can enjoy magical winter adventures. Their days will be filled with exciting activities and tranquil moments in unique nature, experiences ranging from relaxing geothermal spa visits to thrilling super jeep tours, whale watching, or northern lights hunting,” noted Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, Managing Director at Visit North Iceland.

Alongside Gatwick, the carrier is set to strengthen its presence at two other London airports; Luton (LTN) and Southend (SEN). Luton is set to benefit from services to Tunisian resort gateway Enfidha (NBE), while the often-overlooked Southend Airport will see a direct connection to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle (CDG). Southwestern easyJet base Bristol (BRS) will be connected to popular winter sun hotspot Marrakech (RAK).

Looking towards the West Midlands and beyond, ahead of opening its new base at Birmingham (BHX) in early 2024, easyJet will launch direct connections to Lyon (LYS) and Paris from October 30. Manchester (MAN) to Grenoble (GNB) is also set to be added to the carrier’s European winter network, likely appealing to northern ski enthusiasts looking for a short break on the slopes.

Boosting regional connectivity across the UK, two domestic routes from Glasgow (GLA) and Belfast (BFS) to Southampton (SOU) will launch on October 29, with flights running up to three times a week during peak season.

“easyJet is proud to be the largest airline in the UK and the launch of these nine new routes demonstrates our confidence in the resilient strength of demand for travel in the UK, with customers choosing us for our trusted brand, unrivalled network and great value fares and we can’t wait to welcome more customers on board,” added Ali Gayward, UK Country Manager for easyJet.

Growth through 2023

Through the year, the carrier is set to boost its capacity by 8% on pre-pandemic levels, with up to one million more seats and 23 more routes available from the UK.

Though the previous two financial quarters have been economic busts for the budget airline, easyJet has remained optimistic amid continued passenger growth and rising fare prices. Like its UK-based low-cost and full-service competitors, the carrier predicts robust summer travel.

To support upcoming growth plans, the carrier is set to open its ninth UK base in Birmingham in March 2024. Announced earlier this month, three easyJet Airbus A320 family aircraft will be permanently stationed at the West Midlands airport ahead of summer 2024. Additional routes have yet to be announced.
