Jamaica’s kits debut crashes Adidas site

Jamaica ushered in their new four-year partnership with Adidas with the release of their new home and away jerseys for the Reggae Boyz and Reggae Girlz, an act that garnered demand, causing a temporary crash on their website.
The home, away and pre-match jerseys were launched yesterday on all social media platforms, with several national players modelling the new apparel, designed by British designer Grace Wales Bonner, which will be worn for the next two years.
The reviews on social media locally have been mixed, but the online demand was so strong that it caused the Adidas site to crash temporarily. According to a release, the traffic caused the crash and work was done to have the site fully operational for online purchases to continue.
Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Michael Ricketts said that new kits signal a start to what he hopes will be a beneficial partnership for the direction of both national programmes.
"With a bold ambition to further develop the opportunities for girls and boys to play grassroots football at home in Jamaica, this only marks the start of what we are certain will be an incredibly important partnership to inspire future Reggae Girlz and Reggae Boyz," Ricketts said in a release yesterday.
The jerseys are made with 100 per cent recyclable materials and consist of the home and away jerseys as well as a pre-match jersey and an anthem jacket to be worn in their pre-game ceremonies.
The home jersey has the signature yellow with green vertical stripes, which reflect "the energy of the island" and "is accentuated by fine pinstripe details that decorate the shirt, echoing the subtle groove of Jamaican music and style." The away jersey is all black and "crafted to represent the collective memories of proud Jamaicans".
Jamaica's first opportunity to wear the new jerseys will be at the Cup of Nations tournament, which starts on February 16. The Reggae Girlz will face Spain, the Czech Republic and hosts Australia as part of their preparation for the Women's World Cup this summer.
