US Coast Guard rescuing two sailors near Puerto Rico.

Two sailors, whose vessel developed mechanical issues en route to Puerto Rico, were rescued by the US Coast Guard.

The sailors, who are from the United States and Norway, were on their way from The Bahamas to San Juan, Puerto Rico when the vessel’s sail dismasted approximately 30 miles north of Arecibo in Puerto Rico.

A mayday call was made and the Coast Guard responded and rescued the duo on February 2.

The Coast Guard also towed their 30-foot vessel named “Mare” to safety.

Petty Officer 2nd Class David Rodríguez commended the team for the work done to rescue the boaters and tow their vessel in unfavourable sea conditions.

“The mast hanging into the water created a dangerous situation and the crew did a great job throughout the evolution. We are all happy that everyone is safe,” he said.
