KINGSTON, N.Y. — The NoVo Foundation’s Broadway Bubble Laundromat on Broadway was burglarized sometime overnight Saturday, Jan. 21, city police said Monday.
Police were called to the 718 Broadway laundromat at 8:50 a.m. Jan. 21 and found damage to several doors, as well as to token and cash machines, Kingston Police Lt. Patrick Buono said.
An “undetermined amount of cash” along with “some incidental items were also missing,” he said in an email Monday.
The laundromat was closed at the time of the burglary and there were no injuries reported.
As of Monday, Buono said no suspects had been identified.
In May 2022, the NoVo Foundation, a charitable group controlled by Peter and Jennifer Buffett, purchased and reopened the former Midtown Laundromat, which had closed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Broadway Bubble, once known as Big Bubble, which also features a community space, opened officially Monday, May 16.
When it reopened, NoVo program coordinator Megan Weiss-Rowe said, “The Broadway Bubble was designed to be a safe, affordable space for local residents to meet their basic needs of doing laundry, and more broadly, to access a wide variety of community resources and programming.”
NoVo has distributed tens of millions of dollars to various organizations, governments, colleges and not-for-profit agencies, among others, throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley region.
