Black Panther: Wakanda is on its way to surpassing the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe entry, Thor: Love and Thunder.

Per Collider, after maintaining the top spot at the box office for the fourth week in a row with a gross of $17.6 million, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever brought its local tally to $393.7 million and its global haul to $733 million. The MCU film is now only days away from overtaking Thor: Love and Thunder's box office take which concluded with a domestic gross of $343 million and $760 million globally.

2018's Black Panther grossed over $560 million during the same time frame on its way to a domestic take of $700 million and $1.3 billion worldwide. Black Panther was a cultural phenomenon and also scored a release in China, which boosted its overall revenue by $105 million. Wakanda Forever didn't get past the film regulators in the territory because of a brief depiction of a same-sex relationship between two female characters. Not only is China not in play for Wakanda Forever, but Russia also hasn't scheduled the film for release. The 2018 installment grossed $19.2 million in Russia and combining that with the money the movie pulled in during its China run, that's a little over $120 million that the sequel is potentially missing out on.

It's also up in the air if Wakanda Forever will top the global gross of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The domestic figure of $411.3 million will be overtaken shortly but the Doctor Strange sequel pulled in $955.7 million at the worldwide box office. Similar to Wakanda Forever, the second Doctor Strange movie was also banned in China due to a depiction of a same-sex relationship.

While the second Black Panther may not fiscally outperform the original, its place at the top of the box office will be enough to earn director Ryan Coogler a prestigious record. If the movie retains its spot for a fifth week, the filmmaker will be the first in history to have two films sustain a five-week run at the top of the box office. Wakanda Forever is the first film since Spider-Man: No Way Home to spend this many consecutive weeks at number one, and it will surpass Spider-Man's run at the top if it can secure another number one finish.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now playing in theaters.
