The weather looks great for the 51st Annual Little Egypt Festival on Saturday.

General Chair Jay Henke says there is a lot more to the festival than just the parade.

“It really kicks off at 8 am with the car show at the park starts.  We have a craft and food vendor area opening at 8:00 as well.  At 9:00 we have a yoga demonstration on the West Schwartz area right next to the kids area that opens at 9.  At 10 in the same location, we will have the Big Wheels Races which is always a lot of fun to watch.”

Registration for the car, truck, and bike show is from eight to eleven, with the trophy presentation at one.  There will be Top 3 Awards in each class as well as Specialty Awards.  Dash Plaques to the First 50 entrees.  There will also be a drawing for automotive memorabilia, a 50-50 drawing, and a raffle.   If you have questions you can call Ken Carpenter at 618-231-1366.

A horse show is scheduled for one at Franklin Park Middle School.

Once the streets are blocked off for the parade around noon, preparations will begin for the Eighth Little Egypt Festival Peoples National Bank 5K Run-Walk.   In addition to the 5K run and walk, there will be a one-mile run and a fun run for kids.  Medallions will go to the top finishers, with bronze medals to all the kids.   You can sign up by going to runsignup.com and search Salem, Illinois.

The parade then caps the day at two, taking its traditional route down North Broadway to West Main.   Parade Chair Troy Cannon says there are 77 entries in the parade in addition to the multiple horses, cars, and emergency vehicles.   The Parade Grand Marshal is a retired educator and historian Frank Brinkerhoff.   The theme is ‘Our Heritage Is Our History’.

You can listen to live coverage of the parade on WJBD-FM 100.1 and online at WJBDradio.com.
