Oman win silver, bronze in Arab bowling

Muscat: Oman bowlers impressed at the 10th edition of Arab Men and 6th edition of Women's Bowling Championships which is underway in Cairo, Egypt, from August 11 to 19.


The national team bowlers managed to capture two medals including silver medal in the women's doubles event and a bronze medal in the men’s trio event.


In the women's doubles, Omani duo of Sara al Maskari and Razan al Hinai bagged silver after a tough competition against the hosts bowlers. They scored a total of 2,187 points with an average of 387. The gold medal went to Egypt bowlers Shreen Saleh and Menna Sultan as they registered a score of 2,335 points with an average of 455. Bahrain’s Noora Sultan and Layla al Janahi claimed the bronze medal after they accumulated a score of 2,098 points with an average of 374.



Oman’s men bowlers were very close to snatch another silver medal in the trio event but they ended in third place to claim the bronze medal. Khalid Ahmed, Ghalib al Busaidi and Hassan al Kharousi managed to score 3,867 points with an average of 706. The UAE bowlers scored a total of 3,931 points with an 698 average to pick the gold in the men's trio event. The silver was bagged by Qatar’s bowlers as they recorded 3,885 points with an average of 696.


Oman’s delegation comprised of six bowlers for men team while the women squad featured four players. The Arab Bowling Championships competitions began last Thursday and will run until coming Friday. The eight-day event features participation of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Yemen and hosts Egypt.
